OEKO-TEX® Standard 100
What is OEKO-TEX®
As a buyer or wearer of PPE, you may have seen items stamped or labelled with an ‘OEKO-TEX® Standard 100’ badge… but what exactly does this mean?
Standard 100 stands for customer confidence and high product safety. In being labelled, the user can rest assured that all components of the product (inclusive of thread, prints, coatings, linings, etc) has been tested for substances which may be deemed harmful when in contact with skin.
Once certified against this standard, the product is considered “harmless in human ecological terms”.
Tests are conducted by one of OEKO-TEX®’s independent partner institutes, based upon their ‘criteria catalogue’. This is where numerous regulated and unregulated substances are considered harmful to human health. The catalogue is reviewed and updated at least once a year, in line with new “scientific knowledge or statutory requirements”.
This does not mean however that gloves without this standard contain harmful substances – it merely means the item has not been tested and, don’t forget, items are certified to confirm reasonable levels of many substances, in accordance with EN420.
Which of our products are certified and marked?
All gloves in the Touchsafe Range, including:
- Pred Sensor – a 15 gauge nylon/spandex blend liner coated in revolutionary PolyMAX™ – cut level 1
- Pred Contact – an 18 gauge nylon/spandex/TekArmor™ blend liner coated in revolutionary PolyMAX™ – cut level C
- Pred Midas – an 18 gauge nylon/spandex/TekArmor™/HPPE blend liner coated in revolutionary PolyMAX™ – maximum cut level F
- Pred Impact – an 18 gauge nylon/spandex/TekArmor™/HPPE blend liner coated in revolutionary PolyMAX™, with TPR impact protection, additional thumb-crutch, and padded palm – maximum cut level F

As you will notice above, all of the Touchsafe Range features a PolyMAX™ palm coating. This environmentally friendly ‘green coating’ is also VOC tested (tested for volatile organic compounds), and the natural oxygen decomposition results in no emissions or pollution to the environment.
